Is Having Copy Cats a Measure of Success? We think so.
At Rocky Top K9, we are proud to be your local dog trainer. We are building our own community within the amazing East Tennessee community. What started as a dream has since turned into an amazing company, and we couldn’t have done it without our incredible customers. Of course, we wouldn’t have these customers without our specific brand of dog training. We’ve got a good thing going here!
There are many different measurements of success. I could list the different ways here such as repeat customers, a good reputation, and the like. But today’s focus is strictly on the one way you can tell you are doing something right and that is when you start having copy cats. When you are the originator of an idea and you start the practice of something spectacular, others start to copy what you do.
These copy cats unknowingly are giving you the biggest compliment possible. It is saying that your way is SO good, SO successful, and SO effective that they must try to do it too. It’s funny sometimes because even as we grow and incorporate new things, we see each “new” thing being echoed. Thank you, I guess. Although it is like having your annoying little brother emulating your every move. As Sevier County’s local dog trainer, we take great pride in what we do.
What’s wrong with someone trying to be a copycat?
To start with, they are not being creative or showing that they have any initiative to come up with their own ideas. They are telling the world that they are not smart enough or good enough to have their own method or come up with their own ideas.
Secondly, if they are simply trying to copy someone then it’s not THEIR idea – they can end up delivering the wrong message. It can also be dangerous. By simply being a parrot, they could unknowingly be putting others at risk. It could end up backfiring on them and make it hard for originals when damage control is needed. It could possibly ruin a good thing even for us.
Let’s face it, a little girl dressing up in her mama’s high heels or a little boy wearing his daddy’s boots, simply are not the beautiful grown woman or the strong man they are picturing themselves to be. They are simply copying (copy cat) what they WANT to be.
Good advice given years ago – Be YOUR own leader, trainer, teacher or whatever your profession is. Be YOUR own person and do your own thing. Some things you just can’t copy. It’s silly really, it’s like putting a dog suit on a cat and calling it a dog. It’s just not the same. If you see someone that has a good thing going and you like what they do, try to be creative and come up with your own version. Show some initiative and make a system that is unique to you or stick to what you know.
Basically, if you’re a copy cat, you’re simply that and you can’t be a top dog if you’re a cat.
Are we the top dog that others want to be? Maybe so since we see our ideas being mimicked. But I can tell you this: Rocky Top K9 is the original. We are the real deal, and that’s something that can’t be changed.
I know when I’m shopping for services, I like to deal with people who are the authentic real deal – the top dogs and not the cats. What about you? Who would you want to train your dog, the real deal or the ones that want to be? Something to think about.
We offer basic obedience training, specialty classes, and AKC programs. Additionally, we offer boarding services for our clients and social events via The Dog Club. Join the Rocky Top K9 family today, and allow us to be YOUR local dog trainer.
