Our Inspiration: Kobi

This fellow here, Kobi, passed away suddenly on April 15, 2021 at a young age of 3 years 4 months. You should know. Sierra’s Grand Sir Kobi Bear – the inspiration behind Rocky Top K9, LLC.

The history of our dog-training business

Three years ago, this special boy came into my life. He came at a sad time, after the death of another dog as well as my dad. He was such a happy, go lucky puppy – joyful. Because of this and because he brought happiness to our home, I chose to name him Kobi. Kobi means joy in Japanese. And did he ever bring great joy to my life! He was so special and smart, I wanted to do something special with him, where we could bring comfort and happiness to others. My idea was to train him for therapy work and that’s how I met Scottie. Scottie helped me train him the basics & I was hooked. I wanted to learn more & with that, we became friends. We continued, with Kobi earning his AKC CGC & UCGC titles. The training brought such a huge trust and bond between Kobi and I, it also brought such freedom. There wasn’t any environment or situation Kobi couldn’t handle. I was always asked if I was a dog trainer because of how good Kobi was. Then the thought came to me, I wanted to share this wonderful freedom with others. And the rest is another story, but you know Scottie and I got together and here we are as Rocky Top K9, LLC.

The results of quality dog training

Since our creation, there are countless stories of cases where a dog’s life was saved from euthanasia or from being returned to the shelter, tears have been shed because people can enjoy their dogs again. And that was the whole purpose to begin with. Kobi never made it to his therapy work as he was so busy being the model and mascot of the company or helping me with any dog that stayed with me for board & train. He may have not helped the few in nursing homes, but I’d like to think he served a bigger purpose in his short life. Whenever you see our logo, know it is my boy Kobi. If it wasn’t for him, you wouldn’t be reading this today. May his legacy live on. RIP, my dearest friend. My heart breaks but I will carry on with what you inspired me to do. Much love.
