With all the commercialism and marketing companies show us, it can be confusing to know what is the best dog food. Unfortunately, we are familiar with corporate America pushing products as being “the best.” The never ending promotions of grain free, organic, high protein, raw diet only, and other claims are most often a spin on the truth.  

So what is the best dog food?

Let’s switch gears for a moment and talk about humans. Each of us has different tastes, metabolisms, and activity levels. An athlete has different nutritional needs than an elder, and a growing toddler has a different metabolism than a middle age person.  In general, what works for me to keep me fit and what I prefer to eat may not work for you. That’s ok.

We all know that a diet of cookies and soda has absolutely zero nutritional value for anyone. This is true at any stage of life. A diet like that would only be harmful, and would cause health and weight issues. We need a balanced nutritionally sound diet in order to remain in good health. This fact is no different for our dogs.

Your dog needs a well balanced and nutritionally sound diet. A puppy has different needs than a senior dog as does a large breed dog over a small breed. Now, we’re back to the question: What is the best dog food?
